Motorcycle Track Day Check List
Motorcycle Track Day Check List
Why should you book yourself in for Track Day?
I kept delaying my first ever track day because i thought it was expensive. But in actual truth they are affordable and also the safest place to ride your motorcycle without needing to be concerned with the countless potential hazards you experience in an uncontrolled environment such as public roads. You can ride at you're own pace whether that be slow, medium or fast in you're allocated group. For first timers it is recommended to start in the slow group and take the time to learn the rules and track layout.
Here are a few things you should do to have the best enjoyment out of your trackday.
1) You're motorcycle needs to be in the best condition it can be in. That means making sure that your tyres, brakes and chain are in good condition, your motorcycle has been tuned recently and you have completed a safety inspection on your bike.
2) Be prepared and organised. Some basic things you'll need are extra fuel, tools, and materials to transport your bike like tie-downs and/or a trailer. You may also want to bring a chair, some food and water to allow you to maintain fluids. And dont forget to bring your motorcycle leathers and riding gear!
3) Keeping a list of your supplies will make it easier to remember what you'll need to bring.
4) Make sure you are fully rested the night before by getting a full nights sleep and staying properly hydrated. Having a clear mind will ensure you will stay safe on the track. If you are getting fatigued during one of you're sessions on the track, it is better to pull in then to stay on the track. Why put yourself or others in danger if you're not concentrating at 100%
5) At the start of the day there will be a riders meeting. Make sure you pay full attention to what is mentioned in this meeting to ensure you get the most out of your experience. And always check you're tyre pressures prior to your first session and check after each session and every session.
6) Always remember to ride at you're own pace because once you hit the track you WILL be pumped up with adrenaline. If you find yourself trying to keep pace with a faster rider(s) try to resist those urges as it may result in you pushing beyond you're limits and resulting in a crash
7) Always make sure you do a safety check prior to each session on the track. Make sure your tyres are still in good condition, that you're chain is adjusted properly, and your fuel level is good before every session. Last thing you need is to go on track and having to worry about these items. Always allow a warm-up and cool down lap as track days are mechanically demanding on bikes. The warm-up lap will get your tyres and motorcycle up to temperature, and the cool down lap will save your high-revving engine from potential damage
